Eko Hot Blog reports that Okoro Eweka, the NSCDC Lagos commandant, said this on Friday at a media briefing in Lagos.
He said the suspected drugs are estimated to be worth N64 million, adding that the command’s anti-vandal team acted on intelligence that the packages were being conveyed in a boat by suspected Ghanaians on Friday.
“On sighting the NSCDC gunboat, the occupants screamed and dived into the sea. Our team did not want to shoot but, however, drove the boat to the defence jetty in Ijora at 11am on the date,” Okoro said
“It may interest you that the suspected cannabis sativa came into Nigeria from Ghana. This is evidenced by the unique nature of the stuff in pawpaw and bible shape.
“This Ghana specie intoxicates highly and this is the reason they referred to it as ‘loud’ in local parlance.”
Eweka, however, appealed to the Ghanaian government to support efforts to discourage cross-border drug trafficking
He added that the NSCDC would not compromise its standards by allowing such illicit drugs to escape through its security routes.
Meanwhile, the development comes days after nine Ghanaians were convicted by a court in Lagos over drug trafficking.
