EKO HOT BLOG reports that there was tension around the Jakande Estate at Isolo, Isheri Road in Lagos State after a motorcyclist hit a passerby who died instantly.
On Thursday, a motorcycle (okada) rider collided with a pedestrian, who died in a matter of minutes.
Residents rushed out in anger and attacked bikes plying the routes in retaliation.
A number of them were set on fire by the protesters. For their own safety, the operators are now avoiding the area.
Officers are on the ground, according to the police, to ensure the safety of people and the normalcy of activities.
Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the rider “veered off the road and collided with a pedestrian.”
Unfortunately, the pedestrian died on the spot after falling. The motorcycle rider was lynched by the locals.”
The police arrived on time, according to the spokesman, and rescued the accused from the lynching.
The deceased was then evacuated by a team of officers who took him to the hospital for treatment.
“An angry mob was already burning the motorcycles left behind by the fleeing riders before the police arrived,” Hundeyin added.
