Lagos Parties with Southwest for Isese Day

Lagos State joined forces with other South-West states to commemorate Isese Day, a joyous celebration of Yoruba religion and traditions.

This momentous occasion, observed on August 20th, aligns with the United Nations’ World Traditional Religion Day.

Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, led a delegation on a historic visit to Obas and traditional leaders across the state.

With warm congratulations and words of encouragement, Aregbe urged the Obas to harness the power of prayer for peace, unity, and stability in the state and beyond.

At the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos, Aregbe joined in the festivities, basking in the wisdom of the revered Monarch.

Aregbe’s visit to the Oniru of Iru Land, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, was a highlight of the celebrations.

Oba Lawal commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for recognizing Isese Day as a public holiday, allowing the Yoruba community to revel in their rich cultural heritage.

He pledged to continue educating the youth about Lagos’ cultural treasures and presented a publication on Iru Land’s history to Aregbe.

As the celebrations unfolded, traditional groups showcased their vibrant cultural parades, prayers, music, and dance.

The Lagos State Government’s dedication to preserving cultural heritage shone brightly, fostering a sense of unity and shared identity among the Yoruba people and other traditional communities.”
