EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspected telecommunication cable vandals in the Ikoyi area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Thursday, said the suspects, Yekini Mohammed, Mohammed Abdullahi, Tukur Mukaila, Abdulrazaq Abdulrahmon and Danladi Nura, were arrested on Wednesday by police officers on patrol.
He said the suspects had dug up a 20-metre long telecommunication cable which they were about to move into a white bus, adding that two diggers and two shovels were found in their possession.
He said, “Officials of the Rapid Response Squad have arrested five suspected telecommunication cable thieves, Yekini Mohammed, Mohammed Abdullahi, Tukur Mukaila, Abdulrazaq Abdulrahmon and Danladi Nura.
The suspects were arrested around 2.30am on Wednesday, September 8, 2022, by police officers on patrol at Oyinkan Abayomi, off Alexander Road, Ikoyi, with a white Volkswagen T4 bus with the number plate, KTU 357 YF
The suspects had dug up a 20-metre long telecommunication cable which they were about to move into the white bus. Also found in their possession were two diggers and two shovels.
“On interrogation, the driver of the bus, Yekini Mohammed, explained that he was invited to the location by others whom are scrap and metal dealers to pick up scrap materials at different areas in Victoria Island and Ikoyi for delivery at Lakulaku, Obalende, where they sell them off.”
Hundeyin said the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation and prosecution.
