Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Police Command says Abiodun Alabi remains the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state.
This platform had reported that IGP Alkali Baba recommended Idowu Owohunwa to replace Alabi as the police boss in Lagos.
The recommendation is contained in a letter dated January 24, 2023, and addressed to the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The development caused a stir on social media as some users erroneously claimed that a new CP has been appointed for Lagos.
Reacting to the situation, the Lagos Police command said no commissioner of police has been posted to the state.
In a statement by the police spokesperson in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command urged residents to disregard fake news that Lagos has a new CP.
“The Lagos State Police Command has been inundated with requests for clarification on the status of the Commissioner of Police in the Command,” the statement reads.
“We wish to state categorically that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State is still CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, mnim, psc. For the avoidance of doubt, no Commissioner of Police has been posted to Lagos State.
“Members of the public are therefore urged to disregard fake news making the rounds that a new Commissioner of Police has been deployed to Lagos State Police Command.
“It is hoped that this clarification would halt the barrage of calls to officers of the Command which has resulted in needless distraction and waste of valuable time.
“The Lagos State Police Command will keep residents and the good people of Lagos State updated whenever the need arises.”
