Lagos Police Declare ‘Ogboni King’ Wanted

• Tajudeen Olanrewaju Bakare, who claims to be an ‘Ogbeni King,’ has been a subject of controversies in the past.

• In 2021, the police in Lagos charged Bakare with the murder of a sachet water seller, Jumoke Oyeleke, after a ‘Yoruba Nation’ protest turned deadly.

• This week, the police found deadly weapons in his house after he allegedly threatened public peace in a video.

The command disclosed the message in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday.

The police accused Bakare, who identifies as Oba Ogboni Abalaiye (Ajamajebi), the First President of the Supreme Body of Ogboni Association Worldwide, of illegally holding weapons in his residence and threatening public peace.

According to Hundeyin, the suspect narrowly escaped arrest during the police operation.

“Following the emergence of a video earlier this week showing a man wielding a pump action rifle and threatening public peace, the CSP Egbeyemi-led Rapid Response Squad (RRS), working on actionable intelligence, carried out a sting operation on the residence of the man in the Surulere area of the state,” the statement reads.

“Found in the suspect’s residence were three pump action rifles, one Beretta pistol magazine one expended 9mm ammunition, one expended and three live cartridges and a picture frame of the suspect.

“The suspect, Tajudeen Olanrewaju Bakare, narrowly escaped arrest and is hereby declared wanted. Any useful information leading to his arrest would be highly appreciated and treated with utmost confidentiality.
