Lagos Port HSE Committee Honours Members

The Lagos Port Health and Safety Committee held her annual lecture and award last Thursday as a way of celebrating outstanding performance in 2019.

The event which held at the Lagos Port complex Apapa with theme of the lecture focused on “Economic Recovery Growth 2020.”

The lecture delivered by Mr.Julius Akpong, head of safety, Cummings Nigeria Ltd, said there’s a strongly connection between safety and economic growth and that this cannot be made possible without the input of HSE professionals.

Our role as health and safety experts is cannot be overemphasized. We are stakeholders in driving economic growth in Nigeria starting from our workplaces.”

In her keynote address, port chairperson, Mrs. Bola Olutu, admonished everyone to be safety advocates. She said noted that safety is the conscience of every organisation and must not be compromised.

The award ceremony recognized organizations as well as individuals who have gone the extra mile to be not just safety professionals but also HSE compliance in their different organisations.

Olutu, was also recognized and awarded for her outstanding and exampliary leadership in the complex.

Ekohotblog spoke to a recipient of the award Engr. Femi Alonge, head of Safety Socials and Environment, Dangote, Sugar Refinery, commended the initiative saying rewarding excellence in the practice of HSE is a way of encouraging everyone to put in their best as far as the port complex is concerned.
