EDITOR’S PICK:

EKO HOT BLOG reports that an early morning rainstorm on Sunday in several parts of Lagos State left many locals counting their losses and lamenting the devastation caused by the downpour.

The Lagos rainstorm began around 8 a.m. and lasted for more than three hours.

Stan Evans, a resident of Muri Okunola Street near Burger Chicken on Victoria Island, claimed the rainstorm toppled trees in the area, causing at least five automobiles and numerous buildings to be damaged.

It was learnt that power wires were also not spared by the violent Lagos rainstorm

“I woke up around 8.30 a.m. this morning (Sunday) and noticed the degree of havoc the downpour had wreaked,” Evans added. It uprooted trees on the roadway, which fell on some parked cars; it also damaged some structures. One of the SUVs was entirely destroyed, while the other four sustained significant damage.

“The electric company has already begun removing power wires from the road, and laborers have begun chopping trees to clean the debris.”

Some residents were also seen attempting to cut down the trees and haul them away from the autos.

Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, did not answer his calls, which rang many times.
