Lagos Remembers Dr. Olowopopo Nurudeen
It was ten years ago, Sunday, March 14, 2010, to be precise.
And the news hit the airwaves like a thunderbolt, throwing Nigerians and Lagosians in Diaspora into mourning. It was the news of the tragic death of the pioneer Chairman of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) board of directors, Dr Olowopopo Nurudeen.
Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo, who during his lifetime was often described as a silent giant for his uncommon grace and humility despite his position in the society, lost his life following a swimming accident in his home.
He was a true Lagosian who was always exploring opportunities to contribute to the development of the State.
He was a founding member of Lagosians of Chicago; a founding member of Eko Club International and also lead physician and lead surgeon to numerous Eko Club International Medical Missions and surgical teams.
Dr Nurudeen Olowopopo was also a founding member of the Association of Nigeria physician America. (ANPA).
A consummate doctor while alive, he played a sterling part as a member of an American team led by Dr Jonathan Nwilo which on November 19, 2004, performed the first open-heart surgery, while the second exercise was carried out on June 1, 2005.
He was indeed a man of impactful living, no wonder his untimely demise, as at the time it did, shook many
Ten years later, the family is set to remember him. That by implication, means, recalling his achievements and reminiscing over the lives that he touched.
The event will hold on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at the Eko Club Close, Off Bode Thomas Street, Surulere, Lagos, starting at 11 am.
The event will feature an Islamic memorial and prayers for him as well as testimonials to his impactful sojourn on earth.
