Eko Hot Blog reports that residents of Orchid Road in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State are urgently appealing to local and state authorities to address the persistent flooding issue that has plagued the area for years.
The recent heavy rainfall, which began on Friday night and continued into early Saturday, exacerbated the situation, leaving many residents stranded and disrupting commercial activities.
Mrs. Ayobami Adeniyi, a resident of Loyal Pine Estate, expressed her frustration, pointing out that despite being aware of their plight, the state government has neglected the deteriorating road condition. “The issue of flooding has severely affected us, and the government has done nothing for years,” she lamented.

Segun Adeyemi, another resident, emphasized the need for improved drainage systems to facilitate the free flow of water. “There are no drains here. Where do you expect the water to go? It pools, causing problems for traders and making it difficult for motorcyclists to navigate without inconveniencing pedestrians,” he explained.
Adeyemi also highlighted that some residents inadvertently contribute to the flooding by obstructing potential drainage paths with their activities, calling for stricter measures to keep drains clear of debris.
In contrast, Mrs. Oluchi, a local trader, defended residents, attributing any drain blockages to government neglect. “The blockage of drains is not our fault. The government has abandoned this road and failed to maintain it for years,” she argued.
While acknowledging a reduction in flooding compared to the previous night, residents, motorists, and traders alike are united in their plea for urgent government intervention to address the ongoing flooding issue. They emphasize the need to restore normalcy to their daily lives and businesses.
As the rainy season persists, the residents of Orchid Road stress the urgency of government action. They urge authorities to promptly improve infrastructure and create a safer, more accessible environment for everyone in the area.
