Lagos Schools To Embark On One-Week Break

  • Lagos schools are set to embark on a one-week break.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has said that public and private primary and secondary schools in Lagos State will embark on a week-long mid-term break commencing from November 1 through November 5, 2021.

The latest development was made known via a statement by the Director-General of OEQA, Mrs Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, on Tuesday.

The DG noted that all schools in Lagos State will resume on November 8, 2021, for instructional learning hours in accordance with the 2021/2022 harmonized school calendar by the OEQA, Ministry of Education.

She further stated that the one-week break would afford schools the opportunity to internally upskill their teachers in various educational and developmental programmes, especially at the time of COVID-19, where learning has gone beyond the physical four walls of the classroom.

The OEQA DG enjoined school administrators and leaders in Lagos State to ensure they comply strictly with the directive of the state government for a hitch-free mid-term break.

Seriki-Ayeni said, “They should also ensure they professionally enrich teachers to aid improved staff performance, effectiveness and efficiency as training and retraining is key to professional development in the 21st century.

“They should use the opportunity to further put in place COVID-19 safety and precautionary protocols as prescribed by the Lagos State Government for students’ wellness,” the DG stated.

Seriki-Ayeni further urged parents/guardians to make use of the mid-term break by engaging their wards productively, as well as spending meaningful time with them to boost a cordial relationship that would foster a peaceful society.
