Lagos Seals Lennox Mall, The Place, Freesia Foodies Restaurant, Others

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government has shut several establishments and a residential building due to various environmental infractions.

The affected establishments and property include Lennox Mall, The Place, Brasas’r Place, Admiralty Mall, undeveloped land, Cmart Supermarket, a residential building, Freesia Foodies Restaurant, Nectar Beauty Hub, and Sailor Lounge.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) announced the enforcement actions in a statement on Sunday.

LAWMA disclosed that it acted on the directives of the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, during an extensive inspection of Lekki 1 on Saturday.

Admiralty Mall

The agency revealed that operatives of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) led by the Acting General Manager, Mr. Kayode Bello, conducted an enforcement operation between late Saturday night and early hours of Sunday.

“This action resulted in the sealing off of several establishments, including Lennox Mall, The Place, Brasas’r Place, Admiralty Mall, undeveloped land, Cmart Supermarket, a residential building, Freesia Foodies Restaurant, Nectar Beauty Hub, and Sailor Lounge, due to various environmental infractions,” the statement reads in part.

This move came during a week that witnessed the closing of at least five major markets in the Lagos metropolis for various environmental infractions.

Earlier on Saturday, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, Mrs. Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, called on the leadership of market associations within the Ikeja Business District, to prevail on their members to comply with traffic and environment regulations within the business district.

She decried the various offences perpetrated by members of the association, especially the conversion of roads to illegal markets as well as allocating selling points to street traders, thereby obstructing vehicular movements. She appealed to the leadership of the Association to prevail on their members to desist from the habit.

Olumegbon-Lawal stated that the appeal became necessary because of the belief that market associations in the State are partners in progress and critical stakeholders in the course of finding lasting solutions to the traffic and environmental issues within the business district.
