Ekohotblog reports that Lagos State is on the verge of launching its much-anticipated standalone University of Medicine and Health Sciences, a key element of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

The institution is poised to transform healthcare education and delivery, not just for Lagosians but also for the entire nation.

Admissions into the multi-campus university are expected to commence by the 2024/2025 academic session.

The announcement was made by Hon. Tolani Sule, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Lagos State, during a crucial steering committee meeting.

Sule emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the university stands among the world’s finest medical institutions.

“Our mandate is clear: to establish a robust institution for Medicine and Health Sciences that will not only serve the people of Lagos State and Nigeria but will also stand among the world’s finest,” Hon. Sule remarked.

He also noted the importance of the new university in addressing Lagos and Nigeria’s pressing healthcare needs.

“This institution will significantly improve the doctor-to-citizen ratio and elevate the quality of healthcare available to our people,” Sule said, stressing the role of the university in tackling the “Japa” syndrome, which refers to the emigration of healthcare professionals from Nigeria.
