Lagos State to Start Work on Epe Development, Labour City
Ekohotblog reports that the Lagos State Government is set to begin construction on the Epe Mixed Development Scheme and Labour City. This project aims to stop unplanned building activities in the area and provide necessary infrastructure for the people.
The announcement was made at a meeting with community leaders and residents held at Epe Resort. The meeting, organized by the New Towns Development Authority (NTDA), was to inform the public about the project and gain their support.
The General Manager of NTDA, Olakunle Aboyeji, explained that the project is necessary to control the fast growth of illegal buildings in Epe. “The Epe Development Scheme is planned to provide proper infrastructure like roads, drainage, water, and electricity. It is also a way to ensure the area grows in an organized manner,” Aboyeji said.
He added that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the project to develop parts of Epe that are not meant for farming. Aboyeji called on residents to cooperate with the government to make the project a success.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lands Bureau, Kamal Olowoshago, encouraged the people of Epe to support the project. “This is a great step forward for Lagos State. I ask everyone to be patient and work with the government to make this happen,” he said.
Olayinka Kazeem, Chairman of the House Committee on Land Matters, said the government must ensure local people benefit from the jobs and opportunities that will come with the project. “The community must be well-informed and included in this development,” he noted.
Olusol Orebiyi, the Project Director of Town Planning Services, shared details of the plan. He said the project will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase covering 781 hectares between Itoikin Road and the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway. “This project will not only bring infrastructure but also create new opportunities for everyone,” Orebiyi added.
Those at the meeting praised the plan, calling it a big win for Epe and Lagos State. “This project will bring lasting development and improve lives,” said one of the community leaders.
The NTDA General Manager urged everyone to support the project. “This is a legacy project that will change the future of Epe for the better. Let’s all work together to make it successful,” he said.
