Lagos State Upgrades CMC to Full-Fledged Agency

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve access to justice and alternative dispute resolution, the Lagos State government has announced the elevation of the Citizens Mediation Centre (CMC) from a Directorate to a full-fledged Agency.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the newly-named Citizens’ Mediation Bureau (CMB) will be helmed by a Permanent Secretary, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering efficient and accessible justice mechanisms for its citizens.

This transformation was detailed in an official circular signed by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, emphasizing the state’s dedication to promoting a robust justice system and resolving disputes effectively.

In line with this advancement, Mrs. Aderinsola Olanrewaju, an accomplished legal professional with over 30 years of experience, has been appointed as the pioneering Permanent Secretary of the Citizens’ Mediation Bureau.

Throughout her extensive career, Mrs. Olanrewaju has cultivated a broad range of expertise in various areas of legal practice.

Her areas of specialization include Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Advanced Arbitration and Mediation, Land Use Charge Dispute Adjudication, and Effective Leadership Skills.

She is an active member of numerous esteemed organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the International Bar Association (IBA), the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), and the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) UK.

With over two decades of service in the Lagos State Civil Service since 1999, Mrs. Olanrewaju has held various significant roles, such as Counsel in the Directorate of Civil Litigation and the Directorate of Citizens’ Rights.

She has also demonstrated her leadership abilities in crucial positions at CMC, including her tenure as Head of the Allen and Lagos Offices, and later as Registrar at the Land Use Charge Assessment Appeal Tribunal.

The transition of the CMC to the CMB marks an important milestone in Lagos State’s dedication to delivering accessible and efficient dispute resolution services for its residents.
