Environmental enforcement teams yesterday raided markets and shops in various local government areas (LGAs) and local council development areas (LCDAs), including Ikorodu, Mosan Okunola, Badagry, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo, Somolu, Eti-Ota East LCDA, and Eti-Osa.
All seized styrofoam food packs were evacuated to the Marini Tranfer Loading Station (TLS) in Bolade, Oshodi, where they will be incinerated, according to the state’s Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
In a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the state government implored all Lagosians to comply with the ban and refrain from using, distributing, or selling the prohibited styrofoam packs in any part of the state.
The crackdown highlights the state’s commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and promoting sustainable practices. The use of styrofoam food packs has been linked to various environmental concerns, including the pollution of water bodies and the generation of non-biodegradable waste.
