Lagos Targets Street Begging, Arrests 27 Including 15 Minors

The Lagos State Environment Taskforce has issued a strong warning against street begging, saying it disrupts traffic flow. The agency is determined to stop such activities in the state.

During a recent operation on Tuesday, the task force arrested 27 people, including 15 children. The raid targeted specific areas where street begging was common.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, said those arrested would be sent to appropriate government facilities. He emphasized that street begging, especially in traffic, is illegal and poses safety risks.

The operation took place in key locations, including Awolowo Way, Falomo roundabout in Ikoyi, and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue on Lekki Road. These areas were identified as hotspots for street begging.

Wahab also stated that similar actions will continue until Lagos is free of beggars and individuals causing public disturbance. This effort aims to improve the environment and ensure smooth vehicular movement.
