Task Force in Lagos has impounded no fewer than 92 commercial motorcycles, just as seven riders were arrested by officials of Lagos State Task Force following attack on its officers.
The officers were said to have been attacked with stones, broken bottles and iron rods while on official mission to arrest motorcycle operators plying restricted routes around Oworonsoki, Adeniji Adele junction, Obalende, Falomo, Lekki Phase 1 and Ikoyi link-bridge areas of the state, weekend.
During the enforcement exercise, some of the riders were said to have resisted arrest and mobilised their colleagues to launch attack on the officials.
Two policemen, it was gathered, sustained head injuries while two para-military officers sustained leg injuries and were hospitalised.
Chairman of the task force, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said the suspects will face the wrath of the law, expressing disappointment at the way and manner commercial motorcycle operators flout traffic rules by plying restricted routes, thereby struggling right of ways with motorists on Ikoyi link-bridge, Falomo, Lekki Phase 1, Adeniji Adele and Obalende.
He said: “The government would no longer tolerate the slightest attack on officers and men of the agency, just as a police officer attached to the agency recently died as a result of injuries he sustained from miscreants while on enforcement duty around Mile 12 area.”
