The exercise is aimed at updating Pensioners’ records with the State Government.
According to the Chairman of the Commission, Mrs. Olabisi Ariyo who disclosed this recently in Ikeja, the annual exercise would also be used to delete details of deceased Pensioners who died during the course of the preceding year.
Mrs Ariyo also noted that the exercise will capture the details of those who were deleted from the payroll for non-appearance during the last verification exercise, with the aim of getting their Pension arrears paid.
She affirmed that the exercise is in tandem with the State’s Pensions Policy to annually audit the Pensioners’ list for the purpose of updating their payroll in the Old Pensions Scheme.
Mrs Ariyo further stated that this year’s verification will be done virtually in line with the current global practice adding that Pensioners and Senior Citizens must be treated with the utmost respect.
In her words: “As a responsive government, it is our duty to continue to make life more comfortable for Pensioners and Senior Citizens. They have served the State meritoriously and as such, deserve the best treatment.”
She reassured that the virtual verification will be convenient and also include those in the diaspora.
“I am optimistic that the virtual verification will be more convenient especially for those in the diaspora, as they will be verified from the comfort of their homes,” Mrs Ariyo said.
