Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State House of Assembly is considering a groundbreaking bill that aims to harmonize geographic information service projects.
The Lagos Geographic Information Service bill seeks to establish a centralized database for all geospatial-related information and matters.
According to Section 4(2), the proposed agency will introduce best practices for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) across the state.
Improving Governance and Technological Integration “This bill is targeted at integrating governance with advancements in technology,” stated Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, representing the Speaker.
Hon. Ogundipe emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring the state remains at the forefront of development.
Addressing Land Ownership Issues Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester, the Chairman of the Physical Planning and Urban Development Committee, highlighted the bill’s potential impact.
“The bill will guide the government to have a database of everything concerning Lagos,” he said.
Sylvester added, “It will also cut sharp practices and curb fraudulent sales of land.”
Involving Professional Expertise During the stakeholder contributions, some participants suggested involving professional bodies in the proposed law’s implementation.
Former lawmaker Rasheed Makinde commended the House’s proactive approach to addressing critical issues.
