Eko Hot Blog reports that the Center for Rural Development (CERUD), under the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Matters, has trained 500 fish farmers, with 250 each from the rural divisions of Epe and Badagry, in modern fishing methods.
According to a government statement issued on Saturday, the move was in line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of deepening democratic dividends, boosting food production and bringing development to rural communities in the state.
After the training, 100 beneficiaries with 50 participants each from the two rural divisions were presented with empowerment materials to enable them to take off smoothly.
Mr. Stephen Adeniji, the Director and Chief Executive Officer of CERUD, while presenting the farming tools to the beneficiaries at the premises of the State Agricultural Development Authority, Oko-Oba, Agege, enjoined them to make good use of the opportunity.
He also advised them to optimise the use of materials given to them to enhance their economic well-being, while also contributing their quota to the present administration agenda to increase agricultural production and enhance food security in Lagos State.
Some of the items presented to beneficiaries at the empowerment programme include two large fish holding plastic tanks, 1000 juvenile fish, fish feeds of various sizes and medications.
The elated beneficiaries were full of appreciation for the benevolent gesture of the Lagos government, promising to take advantage of the opportunity provided to improve their living standard and contribute to the agricultural development embarked upon by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
