Squatters arrested at Dolphin Estate Bridge shelter
Eko Hot Blog reports that officials of the Lagos State Government have uncovered an underbridge shelter at the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Lagos.
The Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in multiple posts on social media on Wednesday.
He disclosed that a total number of 86 rooms and a container were found under the Dolphin Estate Bridge.
The commissioner said all occupants have been removed by the Lagos Ministry of Environment enforcement team.
“A total number of 86 rooms, partitioned into 10×10 and 12×10, and a container used for different illegal activities were discovered under the Dolphine Estate bridge,” Wahab stated.
“They have all been removed by the enforcement team of Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.”

The commissioner also revealed that officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) arrested 18 individuals from the illegal shelter on Tuesday.
The Lagos government subsequently dismantled the structures on Wednesday, according to Wahab.
“18 individuals squatting illegally under the bridge leading from Dolphin Estate were arrested yesterday 30th of April, 2024 by the officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps @LAGESCOfficial (KAI),” he said.
“The illegal shanties have been dismantled this morning.”
In a related development, the Special Adviser on Environment to Lagos Governor, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, disclosed that the occupants of the illegal shelter at Dolphin Estate Bridge paid up to N250,000 per annum to rent a room.
“The bridge has hitherto housed 86 rooms, partitioned into 10×10 and 12×10. Squatters there have been paying an average rent of N250k p.a,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday.
