Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government has launched a new plan to reduce newborn deaths and stillbirths.

The plan aims to scale up evidence-based and cost-effective interventions to improve the survival of newborns in Lagos State.

These interventions include:

  • Increasing access to quality care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum period.
  • Reducing the incidence of preterm birth and low birth weight.
  • Preventing infections that can cause newborn deaths.
  • Providing newborn resuscitation and other essential care.

The plan also calls for increased investment in newborn health, as well as stronger coordination between government agencies and civil society organizations.

Speaking at the launch of the plan, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, urged all stakeholders to work together to implement the plan and save the lives of newborns.
