The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) says its officials are visiting houses in the metropolis to obtain samples of water pumped from its waterworks to ascertain quality.

The corporation’s Managing Director, Mr Muminu Badmus, said in a statement on Sunday that the visit by LWC quality monitoring team was to ensure that residents were served with good quality water.

“The team engages in periodical monitoring of water quality at the customers’ taps across the state to ensure quality service delivery,” the LWC boss said.

He said that the tour began on Aug. 26 and was now in the South East region on sampling of water at the customers’ taps.

Badmus said that the sensitisation became necessary following improved water supply as a result of repair of clear water pumps at the Iju water plant.

According to him, water produced by the corporation undergo series of treatment to ensure its potability and fitness for human consumption.

“Our quality monitoring team always carry out analysis on water produced to ensure that it conforms with the World Health Organisation’s standards.

”Results of water quality produced at LWC waterworks are displayed daily on its platform,” Badmus said.

He, however, attributed the complaints of coloured water from consumers to broken pipes and unclean water reservoirs in homes.

”Some of the coloured waters are largely due to sewage through broken service pipe leading to customer’s residence; Non maintenance of customer’s reservoir tank by not washing and covering to protect it from dirt.

“Water can colour in some houses due to the use of same reservoir tank to store water from LWC and borehole or well that the quality cannot be ascertained,” Badmus said.

He advised customers to visit the nearest LWC zonal office with details, assuring that the corporation would visit and attend to such complaints.

He restated LWC’s commitment to delivery of potable water to every home in the state.
