Eko Hot Blog reports that residents of Lagos State are eagerly anticipating the reopening of the Ounjè Èkò discount markets on Sunday, March 24, 2024, hailing the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for extending this initiative to all five divisions of the state.
The Ounjè Èkò markets, introduced as part of the EKO CARES program, offer discounted food items such as rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, and perishables like tomatoes, peppers, and onions.
The pilot scheme, which began on Sunday, March 17, has already witnessed increased sales for local food vendors and excitement among residents over the low prices.
“The activities in each market are coordinated by LASG officials, youth volunteers, private sector payment solution providers, and local government officials to ensure seamless operations,” stated Gbenga Omotoso, the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
Omotoso emphasized the administration’s commitment to impacting lives in various sectors of the economy, including transportation, MSME trade, food, education, and health, through initiatives like Ounjè Èkò. “Governor Sanwo-Olu rolled out the initiative, amongst others, to impact lives in various sectors of the economy, such as transportation, MSME trade, food, education, and health. They will all be run under the theme, EKO CARES,” he said.
To cater to the needs of residents in different areas, the markets will be available in multiple locations. “Residents are advised to look out for prices of the items displayed in each locality as they might slightly differ in different locations,” Omotoso advised. “A new market location has also been introduced in Lekki Phase 1 to cater to the needs of residents within the area.”
The detailed locations of the Ounjè Èkò markets can be found on all Lagos State Government social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X, and the official website, www.lagosstate.gov.ng.
The reopening of the Ounjè Èkò discount markets has been met with excitement and gratitude from Lagosians, who are eager to take advantage of the discounted prices and support the state government’s efforts to alleviate the financial burdens faced by residents.
