LAHA: LNSA Leads the Pack in Security Excellence

Lagos State House of Assembly has praised the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency (LNSA) for its innovative use of advanced technology in its surveillance operations.

This commendation was delivered by Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, during a media roundtable titled “The Role of Technology in Security: Creating New Perspectives.”

Ogundipe emphasized that the LNSA stands out as the premier grassroots safety and security agency, leading its peers in effective community protection.

He also acknowledged the media’s crucial role in supporting Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s Safer Lagos initiative and reassured that the Lagos State House of Assembly is ready to further enhance the Neighborhood Safety Agency, pending amendments to the Federal Constitution.

Ogundipe expressed his gratitude to the agency’s officers for their dedication and professionalism in serving Lagos State, affirming the government’s ongoing commitment to their welfare.

During the launch of a new drone surveillance and real-time monitoring platform, the General Manager of the LNSA, Prince (Dr.) Ifalade Oyekan, FSIN, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership and dedication to excellence.

Oyekan noted, “The real-time platform is another improvement on its deployment of surveillance technologies aimed at ensuring Lagos residents can go about their normal duties and sleep with their two eyes closed without fear.”

To adapt to the evolving security landscape, Oyekan announced that the agency has shifted from monthly to weekly intelligence report submissions to relevant stakeholders.

He thanked the Lagos State House of Assembly for its continuous support, which has been vital in empowering the agency to fulfill its mission of keeping Lagos safe.

Responding to questions from journalists, Oyekan discussed the recent amendment to the law establishing the LNSA, which now includes the Amotekun Unit authorized to bear arms.

However, he clarified that the Lagos State Government is not rushing to activate this provision, aiming to maintain a people-friendly and civil approach.

Additionally, Oyekan highlighted the deployment of 200 scooters to enhance surveillance in inner communities, improving mobility and reducing costs.

Oyekan emphasized that the Lagos State Government remains committed to the welfare, safety, and security of the agency’s officers through ongoing training programs and the provision of safety gadgets, with plans underway to establish a dedicated Training Academy.

The General Manager also revealed that the agency has engaged in discussions with the Gambian government, which is exploring a potential collaboration, and that the Washington DC Police Department has sent a delegation to learn from the LNSA’s pioneering efforts in community engagement.

Oyekan assured Lagos residents of continuous improvements to the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency and Corps, as the agency remains focused on enhancing its technological capabilities in grassroots security.
