EKO HOT BLOG reports that the attack occurred on January 10, 2025, at about 8:47 p.m. The victims were reportedly working on installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service when the attackers struck. A fourth victim, whose identity remains unknown, was also killed in the attack.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating, “Four people lost their lives in the attack, including three Airtel staff and one local resident.” Following the tragedy, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, and the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, visited the scene.

The victims’ bodies were later evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.
In another incident, two immigration officers and one civilian were killed in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State during an unprovoked attack by the Lakurawa armed group on Saturday.
A source disclosed that the immigration officers were at a site designated for border-monitoring equipment installation when the gunmen attacked. By 2 p.m. on Saturday, a crowd had gathered at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where a Hilux truck with the victims’ bodies was parked.
Immigration officers stationed at the hospital refused to comment, and neither Kebbi Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar nor his Immigration counterpart responded to calls or text messages. As of press time, no official statement from either the Immigration Service or the Police had been released regarding the attacks.
