This was confirmed by the police command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano.
Haruna disclosed that the suspects—Aliyu Adamu, 22; Mubarak Abdulsalam, 20; and Sadiq Sunusi, 19—are currently in police custody.
“On September 29, 2024, at about 7:30 p.m., a resident of Dorayi Quarters, Kano, lodged a complaint that his brother, Dahiru Musa, had gone missing. He expressed strong suspicions regarding Aliyu Adamu, 22, of Gaida Yan-Kusa Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, who was the last person in contact with the deceased,” Haruna explained.
Following the report, detectives swiftly moved into action and apprehended Adamu the next day. During interrogation, Adamu confessed to conspiring with his friend, Mubarak Abdulsalam, to lure Musa to his house under the pretext of discussing a land deal.
“They offered him poisoned food, and when he became unconscious, they stabbed him to death,” Haruna continued. “The body was wrapped in a sack and dumped in an uncompleted building near Adamu’s residence.”
According to the police, the motive behind the murder was to seize Musa’s landed property. Adamu had reportedly obtained Musa’s land documents and planned to claim the property after eliminating him.

The investigation further revealed that after Adamu’s arrest, Abdulsalam conspired with another accomplice, Sadiq Sunusi, to burn Musa’s body with petrol in an attempt to destroy any remaining evidence. The charred remains were later recovered and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba, praised the public for their role in providing vital information that led to the arrests. He also advised residents to remain vigilant, especially when conducting transactions in unfamiliar or secluded locations.
“We commend the public for their cooperation and assistance in this case,” Garba stated. “People must exercise caution when conducting business with individuals they do not fully trust, particularly in isolated areas.”
The three suspects remain in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, and will be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.
