Lanre Mojola Reiterates Government's Commitment To Safety In Schools

Mr. Lanre Mojola, the Director General, Lagos State Safety Commission has reiterated government’s commitment to safety of lives of students and lecturers in public and tertiary institutions across the state.

He spoke at a one-day workshop for field officers on school safety survey.

The programme, which was organised in collaboration with Lagos Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget was to enumerate grey areas in school safety survey and proffer solutions to them.

Mojola declared that school safety audit cannot be overemphasized, adding that the commission’s mandate is to ensure zero fatality in public schools and tertiary institutions.

He noted that for teaching- learning process to effectively take place, the school environment must be safe and secured.

According to him, “the world is a global village whereby we must enumerate, measure and manage school safety devoid of kidnapping, terrorism, sexual harassment, sales of illegal substances and hard drugs that are hazardous to safety of lives.

He called on school operators and management of tertiary institutions to inculcate safety habits in their school curriculum

Director, Lagos Bureau of Statistics, Mr. Bashiru Oseni-Ope in his welcome remarks said data collection is key that will aid the government plan and manage issues relating to safety of lives in public schools and tertiary institutions.

Director. Public Safety and Wellness, Safety Commission, Dr. Oluremi Olatunde in her remarks on overview of school safety  stated that survey will enhance academic success, promote physical, psychological and emotional balance of students when safety audit in schools are carried out.
