Despite repeated warnings, several establishments, including a hotel, a bar, and a Catholic church, continued to ignore LASEPA’s directives, prompting the agency to take decisive action.
The sealed establishments include School2Bar, Blue Seasons Hotel & Suites, and St. Monica’s Hall of Our Lady of Lords Catholic Church.
According to LASEPA officials, these establishments had consistently flouted environmental regulations, contributing to noise pollution and other environmental infractions in the affected areas.
The enforcement operation underscores LASEPA’s commitment to creating a harmonious and sustainable environment for Lagos residents by ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
“We have repeatedly engaged these establishments and warned them about the consequences of their actions,” said a LASEPA spokesperson. “However, their blatant disregard for the law and the well-being of the community left us with no choice but to take stern measures.”
The spokesperson emphasized that the sealing of the premises would remain in effect until the offending establishments demonstrated a willingness to comply with the agency’s directives and address the environmental violations.
“We understand the importance of economic activities and religious gatherings, but they must be conducted in a manner that respects the rights of others and adheres to environmental regulations,” the spokesperson added.
The crackdown has sent a strong message to other potential violators, underscoring LASEPA’s determination to enforce environmental laws and ensure a livable environment for all residents of Lagos State.
Residents in the affected areas have welcomed the agency’s action, expressing hope that it will bring much-needed relief from the noise pollution and environmental degradation that had plagued their communities.
