LASG Appoints Wasiu Ayeola As Lekki Coastal Chairman

Alhaji Wasiu Olaomopo Ayeola has emerged as the Chairman of Lekki Coastal Resettlement Committee.

As gathered by Eko Hot Blog, the Chairman, with other members of the committee were inaugurated in the State capital, Ikeja, on Tuesday August 3rd 2021 by the Lagos State Government through the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Dr Mrs Lola Akande.

High-ranking Government officials present at the swearing-in ceremony include Mr Kazeem Raheem Adewale, Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties & Intergovernmental Relations and Mr Oluseyi Sewedo Whenu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives.

In her address, Dr Mrs Lola Akande charged the six-man committee, appointed on a two-year term, to resettle those who were affected by the Lekki Project.

She further noted that the committee is saddled with the primary responsibility of
planning, designing, monitoring and evaluating the resettlement of individuals and families affected by the Lekki Free Zone Project.

“The primary role of the committee includes setting out the context and process for resettling and compensating affected individuals and families within the host community.”

“It is important to state that this newly reconstituted Resettlement Committee will work in strict compliance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding to mitigate any maladministration of the resettlement land,” she stated.

According to Dr Mrs Lola Akande, the committee is made up of six persons – Wasiu Olaomopo Aiyeola (Chairman), Alhaji Tajudeen Akorede Jegede, Mrs Sofiat Asumo, Mr Jonathan Oluwadamilare, Alhaji Kamilu Abiodun Muslim and Mr Toheeb Nola.

Dr Akande said that within the first three months of inauguration, the newly constituted committee must provide a timetable and ensure that they don’t misapply roles and functions of the respective institutions as enshrined in the MoU.

Responding on behalf of other members of the committee, Alhaji Wasiu Olaomopo Aiyeola assured the gathering of his team’s readiness to perform designated roles in line with the MoU drafted by the Lagos State Government.

He stated that the resettlement plan as agreed by all parties involved will guarantee a win-win situation for both the Lagos State Government and the host communities.
