LASG Assures PWDs Of Equal Opportunities Under THEMES Plus Agenda

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, emphasized the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) under the THEMES Plus Agenda.

He stated, “The THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasizes Youth Engagement, Gender Equality, and Social Inclusion. We pledge to ensure that PWDs are active participants in this agenda with a particular focus on providing equal opportunities for all citizens.”

In her goodwill message, Pharm. Oluwatoyin Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, praised LASODA for creating awareness about the challenges faced by PWDs.

She expressed, “The recognition and presentation of awards to some caregivers who have devoted their time and resources to the needs of PWDs show the state government’s acknowledgment of their significant contributions to improving the standard of living of PWDs.”

Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, General Manager of LASODA, highlighted the importance of inclusiveness by the Lagos State Government, stating, “This event also marks World Braille Day as a way of giving credence to the policy of inclusiveness.”

She emphasized the need for joint efforts by stakeholders to enhance the lives of PWDs and reiterated LASODA’s mission to provide transformative solutions for inclusive development, opportunities, accessibility, and social justice.

Oyetunde-Lawal noted, “It is pertinent to note that these groups of people that would be recognized today are passion-driven towards ensuring the promotion and improvement of PWDs.”

Guest Speaker Mrs. Crystal Chigbu called on the State Government to initiate and promote inclusive policies for PWDs.

She urged, “Improved and accessible transportation, adaptable technology, and education for all PWDs regardless of the nature of their disabilities.”
