EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Government has begun implementing an energy conservation and management plan for various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies throughout the state.

The government’s initiative, according to Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, General Manager, Lagos State Electricity Board, is geared toward operational efficiency and cost reduction in tandem with the’smart city ecosystem,’ which leverages the intelligent use of energy.

Tijani stated that the plan is one of the key recommendations of the energy audits conducted on some government facilities, and that the State must improve its energy conservation and management in order to support her efforts to reshape the energy mix and distribution systems.

“Clearly, this administration is orchestrating infrastructure for a long-term Smart City with a focus on safety and resilience.” “A key component of the overall plan should be energy conservation and efficient use,” he said.

The General Manager, in elaborating on the initiative’s significance for the city’s resilience, stated that reduced energy consumption will result in efficacy and energy sustainability within the State.

According to Tijani, the plan will assess the demand for energy services that will improve environmental quality and lower energy costs by preventing resource depletion in the future.

“Another key component of the plan is the use of smart energy sensors with multiple functions to obtain corresponding information and share data for predictive analytics. These data can be used to detect, predict energy needs and provide valuable insights during times of peak demand”, the General Manager said.

Speaking further, Tijani revealed that the implementation exercise will also create an opportunity to sensitise staff of various MDAs to make informed decisions on energy utilisation and support the government in proffering relevant solutions to energy challenges.

While maintaining that the exercise will help to highlight areas of rehabilitation and revamping of other electrical installations within the facilities of government, the General Manager affirmed that the plan is to create a comprehensive portfolio of efficient and standard energy generation.

“The project, be carried out in phases across all the State’s facilities including general hospitals, primary health centres, tertiary, secondary & primary institutions, will also support the establishment of energy consumption and efficiency mechanisms in MDAs”, Tijani said
