LASG Engages Stakeholders to Address Sand Spillage on Roads and Its Environmental Impact

Ekohotblog reports that the Lagos State Government held a one-day stakeholder meeting to address the issue of sand spillage on roads and its harmful effects on the environment.

The meeting took place on Friday, September 6, at the Debt Management Office in Alausa, Ikeja, and focused on finding effective ways to prevent the problem.

Hon. Engr. Abiola Olowu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources, emphasized the urgency of the situation. He explained that vandals continue to damage key infrastructure, particularly the roads, through illegal sand-related activities.

“Public infrastructure is crucial for economic growth, social development, and the overall functioning of society. Sand spillage on our roads affects everyone and has serious consequences for the entire state,” Olowu said.

The meeting brought together stakeholders to discuss how to enforce existing regulations and prevent further damage.

Participants also addressed the environmental impact of sand spillage, including increased flooding and erosion, which pose long-term challenges for Lagos.

The government plans to work closely with agencies, community leaders, and the private sector to develop sustainable solutions and improve road safety and environmental health across the state.
