The Lagos State Government has taken decisive action against Mrs. Stella Nwadigbo, a teacher at Christ Mitots Nursery and Primary School in Agric, Ikorodu, for the indecent treatment of a toddler and pupil, Master Abayomi Michael.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the government invoked the Child Rights Act and the Lagos State Policy on Safeguarding and Child Protection in response to a viral video that surfaced on January 8, 2025, showing Nwadigbo physically assaulting the three-year-old child for struggling with a lesson.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) visited the school on January 9, 2025, only to find that it had been partially closed, and pupils were asked to stay home until January 13, 2025.
Findings reveal that the temporary closure was to protect other pupils from potential harassment and to manage the influx of public visitors seeking pictures and videos.
The school’s Head Teacher, Mrs. B. Adeyeri, spoke on behalf of the proprietor, Rev. (Mrs.) Olutoye, and confirmed the need for the closure to maintain a safe environment for the children.
Meanwhile, Master Abayomi Michael has been referred for medical attention, and Mrs. Nwadigbo was arrested and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional facility until February 18, 2025, while the Director of Public Prosecution provides legal advice on the case.
Nwadigbo, who by her action contravened the Child Rights Act and the Lagos State Policy on Safeguarding and Child Protection, was also granted bail in the sum of #200,000:00 and two sureties.
As the investigation continues on Monday, January 13, 2025, the attention of the School Proprietor, Mrs. Olutoye; the Head Teacher, Mrs. B. Adeyeri; the victim, Master Abayomi Michael and his mother, Mrs. Fatimah Adenike Okunlaya, who is also a Teacher in the School, would be required, among others.
