Eko Hot Blog reports that in a bid to enhance professionalism and bolster service delivery, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has embarked on a comprehensive in-house training program for 309 junior officers across different zones.
The move aligns with the strategic repositioning of LASTMA for more effective traffic management.
Mr. Bakare-Oki Olalekan, the General Manager of LASTMA, highlighted the significance of the “Retraining Programme” during its commencement.
He emphasized that the initiative falls under the “Traffic Management and Transportation” pillar, a key component of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda.
The retraining initiative aims to reshape the image of LASTMA and establish a refined and robust Traffic Management System (T.M.S) in Lagos State.
The ultimate goal is to alleviate traffic congestion within the Lagos metropolis.
The four-day program began with the first batch of 81 Junior Officers, with the entire exercise expected to conclude on Thursday, 1st February 2024.
Mr. Bakare-Oki stated, “We map out new retraining modules to aid effective execution of duties as well as enlighten our officers on new innovative ways to optimize their operations to meet international standards and best practices in traffic management.”

In his welcome address, Mr. Akinpelu Ayuba, LASTMA’s Director of Human Capacity, Development, and Specialized Training, expressed gratitude for the government’s approval of the retraining program.
He affirmed that the exercise would promote professionalism and enhance the quality of road management services across the state.
The comprehensive course contents for the retraining cover a spectrum of topics, including Leadership Qualities, Operational Guidelines, Empathy and Emotional Management, Enforcement without Aggression, Traffic Incidents Management and Safety, Attitudinal Change in Traffic Management, Human Rights Law Standards, Civil Service Rules and Regulations, Discipline, Ethics, and Standards in Traffic Management, Enhanced Capacity, Service Efficiency and Reliability, and Religious Discretion in Traffic Management.
