Lagos State Government is launching a comprehensive sensitization campaign, Eco-Circulate, to promote the Circular Economy and transform waste into valuable assets.
This innovative program aims to diversify the state’s resources, reduce climate impacts, and create a more sustainable future.
Led by Mrs. Titi Oshodi, Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, the campaign will kick off in Badagry on August 31, 2024, at St.
Thomas Primary School, Agbalata Market Road. The Eco-Circulate program is designed to raise awareness and drive adoption of the Circular Economy across all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State.
EDITORS PICK:
By incentivizing residents to participate in waste-to-value initiatives, the program offers rewards such as health insurance, free public transport, foodstuffs, cooking energy, and airtime/data in exchange for recyclable materials like plastic bottles, e-waste, and textile waste.
Strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including LASHMA, LASSRA, the Lottery Board, and external partners like telecom companies and manufacturers, ensure the program’s success.
The Circular Economy has the potential to create 10,000 to 30,000 jobs, foster new entrepreneurship, and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Lagos State.
By embracing this revolutionary approach, Lagos State is poised to become a model for sustainable development and environmental stewardship.”
