Lagos State Government partners with Concerned NationBuilders Initiative (CNI), an NGO, to distributes maize and sorghum to livestock farmers to mitigate hardship amidst COVID-19 pandemic.
It is also to boost Livestock industry in the state and avert food scarcity for the livestock’s.
According to Dr Olayiwola Onasanya, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos Ministry of Agriculture noted that the distribution of these ingredients into the feed mill industry would have a multiplier effect on the input and output of the farmers and consequently on food production for livestock farmers in Epe.
Onasanya noted that the distribution would help the farmers save time and money spent on searching for quality maize, shorten production time as well as reduce wastage of ingredients during production.
The Permanent Secretary opined that the distribution is coming on the heels of the empowerment of farmers in the local community with maize seeds for the new planting season, adding that all these measures by the State Government were to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its threat to food security and availability in the State.

He, therefore, urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of these inputs to improve the animal feed industry, as it would go a long way in rearing healthy animals and in return produce quality food for Lagosians.
According to Mr Titilayo Adebanjo, a Member of the NGO, applauded the kind gestures of the government for there commitment and efforts in boosting agricultural sector in the state.
He adviced that the maize and soghum should be distributed to both commercial livestock farmers and the peasant farmers in Epe especially those living on the remote areas such as Ajebo, Mutaku, Igbodu, Sala, Afero, Eleran Igbe, Igbonla, Igboye among several others.
He said that the feed will go a long way to support the farmers to have a good and healthy ingredients for there livestock’s.
According to one of the beneficiaries, Mr Oluwasegun Ayodele of Segnat Farm in itokin, commended the Lagos state government for extending arm of fellowship to farmers in the axis.
“This is the first time He enjoyed government support for farmers, It is an unusual practices on the remote livestock farmers and this was seconded by Mrs olaide of Sunny farm.
“I therefore, I appreciate the government for such a novelty. I pray the Lord Almighty to continue to bless them and provide for there needs, ” he prayed.
Ayodele, noted that, It is not only animal that should be fed, We farmers too need other incentives and fund to feed our families too, “he said.
