Lagos State Government, Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Green Line Rail Project.
The signing ceremony, witnessed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Finance Olawale Edun, and top officials from the Federal Government and CHEC, took place during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, China.
The Green Line Rail Project, a 68km rail line connecting Lekki Free Zone to Marina, promises to revolutionize public transportation in Lagos State.
With the capacity to carry over 500,000 passengers daily, the rail line will link key areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, and more, transforming the state’s transport landscape.
Governor Sanwo-Olu hailed the signing as a “historic moment” that will “redefine public transportation” in Lagos.

He emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “The Green Line will complement our existing rail lines, including the Red Line, which has already begun partial operations.
Together, these lines form the backbone of our Strategic Transport Masterplan, designed to create a fast, efficient, and connected Lagos.”
The Governor also highlighted the success of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line, which has served over two million passengers without significant disruptions.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support and endorsement of the project.
The Green Rail Line will connect iconic stations like Marina, Victoria Island, Lekki Phase 1, Ajah, and Lekki Free Trade Zone, promoting economic growth, reducing travel times, and enhancing the quality of life for millions.
With this project, Lagos State is poised to lead the way in transportation innovation and infrastructure development.
