Lagos State Government has emphasized the crucial role of collaboration between the government and women-focused NGOs in addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by women in the state.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, made this clear during an interactive meeting with representatives from women-focused NGOs in Lagos.
The meeting, held at the Women Development Centre, Agege, aimed to foster greater cooperation between the government and NGOs to tackle issues such as transportation, environmental sustainability, and women’s rights.
Hon. Dada highlighted the importance of transportation in the lives of women, particularly in a bustling metropolis like Lagos, and called for collective action to improve the system.

She encouraged NGOs to partner with the government in raising awareness about women’s rights within the transport sector and advocating for initiatives such as women-only transport services.
Additionally, Hon. Dada stressed the need for immediate action to combat environmental degradation, which disproportionately affects women, and encouraged NGOs to facilitate community workshops to educate women on sustainable practices.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, thanked the attendees for their valuable insights and emphasized the importance of collaboration in tackling the challenges facing women in Lagos.
She reiterated that the government’s strength lies in partnership and collaboration to create a more inclusive, safe, and equitable environment for women in the state.
