EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs Ajibola Ponnle, disclosed this at the 96th retirement bond certificate presentation ceremony to retirees of the Lagos State Public Service on Friday.
She said, “The commission under the supervision of Mr Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has paid over N43bn only as accrued pension rights to 11,644 retirees in the mainstream, Local Government, State Universal Basic Board, Teaching Service Commission and other parastatals of the State Government from May 2019 till date.
“Today, the Lagos State Government has, once again, faithfully honoured its obligations as stated in the amended Lagos State Contributory Pension Scheme Law, by the presentation of bond certificates with a total amount of N1.11bn to 295 retirees.”
She noted that the state government recognised the plight of its workers who served in the Lagos State public service and the need to safeguard their financial security after service.
While assuring the retirees that the state would not forget them, she said, “Your welfare and wellbeing are top-priority and the state government is relentless in its pursuit to improve your retirement life.”
The Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission, Babalola Obilana, said the governor prioritised pension contributions in the annual state budget and consistently allocated a minimum of N1bn monthly for the payment of accrued rights obligations.
He added that the governor approved the automation of business processes in LASPEC to ensure first-class service delivery to its retirees in order to accomplish the state government’s goal of the immediate payment of pension entitlements upon retirement from the public service.
The director-general urged the retirees to beware of any individual or association claiming to be affiliated with the state government and could process or fast track their pension entitlements for a fee.
He advised them to direct all enquiries to LASPEC via its website or contact it on its official phone lines, which could be found on its website
