LASG Promotes Online Safety Education for Students

• In an effort to equip students in Lagos State with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely, the Ministry of Youth and Social Development recently organized a one-day sensitization program focused on “Digital Resilience: Empowering Students to Navigate Online Safely.”
• The Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education District I, Mr. Bashir Adeoye Adebowale, praised the ministry’s initiative as timely and valuable for students’ online activities.

In an effort to equip students in Lagos State with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely, the Ministry of Youth and Social Development recently organized a one-day sensitization program focused on “Digital Resilience: Empowering Students to Navigate Online Safely.”

In her welcome address at a programme held at the Government Senior College, Agege today, Permanent Secretary, Pharm (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, represented by the Director, Social Welfare Department, Mrs. Toyin Jaiyeola, said “This programme organised by the School Social Work Services Unit of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development underscores our unwavering commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of the students across Lagos State”.

“The School Social Work Services of the Ministry is designed to support students in navigating social, emotional and psychological challenges, including those arising from internet use.

Through counselling, intervention programmes, and partnerships with schools, we ensure that students are equipped with the skills to handle online risks, report abuse and build digital resilience”, Oke-Osanyintolu added.

The ministry reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding students and supporting their holistic development, in line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s vision of equal access to education and support systems.

The ministry highlighted its School Social Work Services as an example of its commitment to student well-being.

He expressed his support for future collaboration to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for safe online navigation.

During the sensitization program, facilitators Olalekan Adeeko, a technologist, and Lebura Olawale, a data analyst, engaged participants from over 20 schools in Education District I on “Ethical Digital Citizenship: Navigating the Online World Responsibly.”
