LASG Seals Off Block Moulding Factories In Ikorodu
The Lagos State Government has sealed off some block moulding factories in Ikorodu during an enforcement exercise.
General Manager of Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Dr Tajudeen Afolabi said the action was part of efforts towards stopping building collapse being experienced in the state.
This, he said, would ensure sanity in the industry.
According to him, the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has declared zero tolerance for building collapse.
“We want to secure the lives and property of the citizens by beaming our searchlight on materials used for construction,” he said.
The general manager said any block industry that fails to meet the requirements and the laid down standard will be shut.

He stressed the need for block moulders to have their blocks stamped, as a means of identification.
On stacking of blocks, Afolabi said blocks should be stacked five layers per column.
The government, he said, was out to ensure those involved in production and sale of building materials meet the required standard.
He said: “In the course of the enforcement exercise, eight-block moulding industries were visited, while seven were sealed off for not meeting the required standard. Samples of the blocks were taken from each block moulding agency. Also, the source of water used for mixing was questioned and samples were collected to be tested in our laboratory.
“The exercise will be continued and spread to all local governments. We appeal to Lagosians to alert us to any suspicion of illegal block moulding going on in their area.”
