LASG Sensitises Facility Managers On Risk Management In High-rise Buildings

The Lagos State Government has sensitised facility managers on the importance of risk management in high-rise buildings to ensure the safety of lives and property.

 

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, spoke during a workshop organised by the Commission for stakeholders and held in Alausa with the theme: “Risk Management in High Rise Buildings”, noting that high structures are unique because they have distinct ways of management different from regular buildings due to the hazards associated with height.

He emphasised the need for facility managers to have a general understanding of risk assessment of tall buildings to prevent unforeseen incidents and accidents relating to air conditioning and ventilation in tall buildings.

 

Mojola expressed his displeasure on matters concerning electrical faults, water safety and poor leadership commitment to safety, saying: “We all must value lives, take responsibility and imbibe positive safety culture.

 

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Sesan Ogundeko, noted that the Commission will continue to sensitise and engage the public on awareness programmes before it moves to enforce compliance with risk assessment of high-rise buildings across the State.

 

Also commenting, the President, International Facility Management Association, Nigeria Chapter, Mr. Segun Adebayo (IFMA), advised facility managers to prioritise risk management in their services.

 

He stated that the need for facility managers to understand that risk management involves a new consciousness on how to effectively mitigate risks in high-rise buildings, adding that data shows more attention needs to be focused on high-rise buildings.
