LASG To Address Road Failures Scientifically – Special Adviser

The Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye has revealed that the incessant failure of newly constructed and rehabilitated roads before their expected lifespan will be addressed swiftly and scientifically.

Adeyoye made this known at a stakeholders meeting held to fashion out ways to reduce the wastage of resources occasioned by incidents of reworking already completed projects because such practice impacted negatively on government resources.

She opined that road failures largely result from the use of substandard materials, stating that henceforth, Standard Operating Procedures will be spelt out in all construction projects executed by either the Public Works Corporation or Contractors.

The Standard Operating Procedures would ensure that necessary tests and calibration of materials to be deployed at every stage of construction such as soil-cement, concrete mixtures, interlocking pavement blocks and asphalt are conducted in world-class laboratories and properly signed off as having satisfied the international best practices benchmark,” Adeyoye said.

“We want to go out and fix failed roads but we must ensure that we get it right so that funds hitherto channelled at reworking roads can be deployed to other projects”, she added.
