The General Manager, Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, Dr. Abiodun Tajudeen Afolabi has disclosed plans by the Agency to set up a Special Squad to monitor the activities of ongoing construction works within the State as a means of curbing the incessant building collapse being experienced in order to achieve a safe built environment.
Speaking during a tour of some divisional offices, the General Manager said, henceforth, any estate that refuses entry for staff of the Agency will have their estates shut down because the government does not want a repeat of the incident that occurred some years ago in a private estate in Lagos.
Dr. Afolabi said that focus will be on construction sites in the Lekki axis because the sandy terrain makes it necessary to carry out tests before commencement of any construction as stipulated in the Agency’s guidelines.
