LASG Warns Drivers Against Over- Speeding

The Lagos State Government (LASG)has warned drivers and other articulated vehicles against speeding. LASG with the Lagos state Driver’s Institute (LASDRI) has cautioned drivers to avoid over accelerating to ensure no accidents during the yuletide season.

The Lagos state government, (LASG) in a bid to reduce reckless driving as seen on Lagos’ roads, has requested and employed that all drivers drive safely and swiftly during the festive period. Therefore, anyone using professional drivers is advised to ensure they don’t over speed during the period and after the festival to avoid any form of road accidents.

Eko Hot Blog learned that the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Drivers Institute, Mrs.Afusat Tiamiyu, spoke at a sensitization organized for drivers of trucks and commercial buses in the area of the state.

Tiamiyu, who promised that the government would ensure that drivers annually attended the institute to get trained, said human errors were responsible for most road crashes.

She said, “One of the policies of the state government is the security of lives and property. It has, however, been observed that human errors constitute a major factor in road accidents. Practices such as speeding, disregard for traffic rules, over speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in road crashes with attendant loss of lives and property.

“The LASG  enforcement of the law on reckless drivers will be carried out by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Vehicle Inspection Services, and the police. Erring vehicle owners will be forced to suffer any offender.

She said, “Motorists can attest to the fact that bigger vehicles such as trucks are fond of intimidating car owners on the road. This is not good as there is a need for these truck drivers to consider other road users.”
