EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, has expressed the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to improve on its achievements in the education sector.
Mrs. Adefisayo made the assertion during the Education Stakeholders’ Forum held at Government Model College, Owutu, Ikorodu, to drive continuous excellence and credible partnership with relevant stakeholders towards moving the education sector forward.
She explained that the forum was organised by the Education Ministry as one of the measures designed to enhance education in the State, through exploration of all avenues to develop the sector, in tandem with the Education & Technology Pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the Lagos State Government.
Expressing the belief that with hard work as a team, the District and by extension the State Government, can achieve more success in the education sector, Mrs. Adefisayo informed that the meeting was designed to appraise government reforms in education, identify the successes so far recorded and seek new collaborative ways with stakeholders.
While responding to the issue of self-help projects across schools in Lagos State, the Commissioner told Alumni Association members present at the event to coordinate themselves in a way that would show confidence and transparency in all their engagements.
She explained that the State Government has directed School Principals to always refer Alumni Associations to the Ministry, adding that the Government had previously received several negative reports bordering on transparency and leadership issues among some Old Students’ Associations.
Adefisayo, who acknowledged the enormous challenges still facing the education sector, maintained that the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains faithful to implementing life-changing reforms in the education sector.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, averred that although the District has excelled in different academic and non-academic areas, there is still a need to sustain the good records already set by the District and also improve on them.
Noting that the performance of schools in Ikorodu Zone under the District rose significantly in the last academic session, the TG/PS pleaded that all hands must continue to be on deck for more exploits in the years ahead in order to restore the glory of education in lkorodu Zone and Education District II.
Adekanye promised that the District will continue to harness every opportunity for an improvement in the State’s education sector by seeking the input and opinions of parents, community leaders, traditional rulers and all other critical stakeholders.
Also speaking, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Sotobi, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s efforts in the education sector and other areas, describing them as exceptional.
Acknowledging the improved presence of the Government’s activities in Ikorodu and its environs, Oba Sotobi, however, noted that he had compiled and presented other areas of need in the education sector to the State Government through the Commissioner for Education.
Other speakers at the forum advised the State Government to reduce the bureaucracies often faced by Old Students Associations willing to give back to their Alma Mater as a way of partnering with the government to uplift the education sector since no one can resolve the challenges in the sector alone.
Other dignitaries present at the forum include the Paramount Rulers of Igbogbo and Imota; Former Federal Minister for Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; the Publisher of Oriwu Sun Community Newspaper, Chief Monzor Olowosago; the Chairman of Ikorodu Development Association, Mr. Rotimi Erogbogbo and NUT leadership among several others.
