The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) Commissioner, High-Chief Akim Durojaiye Oluwo, has encouraged all eligible Lagosians to actively participate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections.
Ekohotblog gathers that he emphasized that voting or contesting is crucial for citizens to have the moral right to criticize, suggest, or commend the administration elected to lead at their localities.

Speaking recently at a public function in Epe while addressing journalists, High-Chief Oluwo, who also holds the traditional title of Ashipa of Epe Land, highlighted the importance of civic engagement in building a responsible and accountable government.
“Citizens’ participation in an election gives them the legitimate right to criticize, encourage the elected government, or raise necessary suggestions to the individuals voted into power,” he said.
High-Chief Oluwo pointed out that LASIEC has already released the Elections Time-Table and Guidelines and called on political parties to comply with the requirements, as the elections are just three months away.
“LASIEC has released the Elections Time-Table and Guidelines. The political parties are expected to do the needful on their own parts since the elections will take place in three months’ time,” he stated.
“As an electoral body, we have created awareness and we are still going to carry out an aggressive Awareness Campaign for the elections, as we don’t want anyone qualified to participate to miss out.
We are ready to conduct free, fair, and credible elections across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs of Lagos State.”
High-Chief Oluwo further noted that special provisions have been made to accommodate first-time voters and individuals who have changed their place of residence.
“For those citizens that have just turned 18 years of age, provision has been made for them to register, while those who have relocated from one Local Government to another can also upgrade their registration.
Those in other categories are not left out,” he explained. “Once you have your Voters’ Card, you will not be disenfranchised.”

He concluded by urging all eligible voters to come out in large numbers and participate, assuring that their votes would be duly counted.
“I advise every electorate to participate in the forthcoming elections, your votes will surely count. Come out en masse, cast your votes, and expect the correct results from LASIEC,” he said.
