EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Ondo State government has said 34 people have died of Lassa Fever in the state since January.

Prof. Francis Faduyile, Special Adviser to the State Governor on Health, revealed the information to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akure on Sunday.

During that time, Faduyile said, the state had 227 confirmed cases in six Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Owo, Ose, Akure South, Akoko South-West, Akure North, and Ondo West are the local governments, according to him.

There were three confirmed instances among health personnel in the state, according to Faduyile.

“As a result of the high index of suspicions and early presentations, none of the health workers died.” He said, “They did well and recovered soon.”

He explained that the sickness was most widespread during the dry season, but that “one or two instances might still occur during the wet season.”

In the last outbreak, Ondo State was the epicenter of Lassa Fever in Nigeria, and the state government investigated the cause and prevention methods.

“The first step in preventing Lassa is to halt bush burning, which we have raised awareness about.” Furthermore, do not store your food in an area where rats can access it.

“There’s also ‘deratification,’ which is when the state government kills all the rats, which it did successfully.

Then there was the index of suspicion, which allowed people to begin testing for Lassa fever as soon as possible.

“Many of our health staff have been put on high alert because individuals who are positive should be treated as soon as possible.”

“The Ondo State administration has also upgraded the Infectious Disease Hospital in Akure to a level where Lassa Fever can be treated.”

“In addition, the Federal Medical Centre in Owo features a Lassa treatment facility.” We’ve also noticed that the area’s sanitation is critical,” he added.

Faduyile said a new dumpsite would be built, and more vehicles would be utilized to transport garbage to the site, explaining that the state government was working on the refuse dump site in Owo.

He also stated that the region will be managed so that the rodents would not migrate to the city from their forest habitats.

In the previous several weeks, the number of Lassa Fever cases in the state has dropped dramatically, Faduyile noted

He also discussed the current administration’s legacy, which he stated would be renowned for its long-term healthcare management.

“We don’t want to do anything that isn’t long-term, therefore we’re putting in place a long-term healthcare management system with our health insurance plan.”

“With our health insurance, Ondo State remains high among the committee of states in this country, and that is what can sustain health.”
